I am thinking of trying Studio 8, but I have heard that learning flash can be extremely tedious and time consuming. I was wondering if this is true? And if so, is there a better program for amatuer's?

Wow, the Flash Exchange Extensions forum is really inactive. I think u should
turn to the general Flash forum, since ur question sounds general. How hard it
is to learn Flash depends on what already know. If you know programming, then
understanding actionscript will be pretty straight forward (very simmilar to
java). Learning the IDE and its concepts (timelines, layers, frames, objects
etc) takes an effort, but its not too hard if ur willing to learn.
